Held at the beginning of June, this high standard chamber music event delights the public with leading Finnish and international musicians and the stars of the future appearing as soloists and in ensembles of all sizes. The music reaches every corner of the town, providing memorable experiences for listeners of all ages. Admission to about half of the concerts is free of charge.
Leading artists have been providing unique experiences for our audiences in the splendid cultural landscapes of Southwest Finland since 1999, with programmes ranging from familiar classics to the very latest chamber music performed in intimate manor houses and churches.
The programmed events of this warm celebration tastefully combine a wide range of musical experiences in various genres that draw strength from unique concert venues in the rural milieu of Harjavalta and Kokemäki. Pride of place goes to chamber and wind instrument music, complemented by high standard light music and children’s concerts.
This chamber music event centres on the 300 year-old wooden cruciform church in the village of Iitti, about 70 miles northeast of Helsinki. The high point of the festivities will be hauling a piano to the lookout point at Hiidenvuori for a watchnight concert. The pianist Laura Mikkola has served as Artistic Director of the festival from its very foundation.
