Bluegrass, polska, fado, Irish folk, jazz and many other musical styles have resounded through the summer nights of Haapavesi in recent years. Poignant, high standard church concerts will captivate audiences as the 2018 festival celebrates 30 years of providing a platform for new folk music and other genres. The 32nd folk course will remain the core of this international event.

2018: This major international celebration of folk dance and music has been bringing enthusiasts and their friends to Tampere since 1970 for the most footloose scene of the summer. The versatile programme provides a full range of folk dance concerts, training courses and night dances. Our 2018 creation “Work and merrymaking” will portray the life of 20th century industrial workers in an urban society, drawing the mood from ramping up the operation and the various stages of cotton milling, nursery rhymes and games, the genteel dances of young adults and the evening social dances of working people.
The delightfully laid back approach, top class performers and uniquely homespun mood of this extraordinary skiffle music event creates a package that major festivals can only aspire to, so be sure to save the third weekend in July for the most interesting and good-humoured celebration of the Finnish cultural summer!
The 47th Spelit folk music event will feature more than 20 concerts of folk music, dance and singing, dozens of smaller musical events and performances, the Finnish championships for harmonica and mandolin players, and the Spelit competition for one and two-row accordions. Some performances have also been arranged in association with the Kauhajoki Food Fair.
A shipload of music, dance and merrymaking, featuring the semi-finals of the Golden and Silver Accordion competitions and dozens of performers, with busking and community singing in the gangways. Organised by Sata-Häme Soi Festival, this unique springtime cruise from Turku to Stockholm is the ideal event for all friends of the accordion, music and dance.
