Premiered in 2017, the specially commissioned Finnish opera Mannerheim will return with Waltteri Torikka again singing the title role as the Marshal of Finland, and other leading performers including Johanna Rusanen-Kartano, Essi Luttinen and Markus Nykänen. With music by Tuomas Kantelinen, libretto by Laila Hirvisaari and Eve Hietamies, Mannerheim the Opera formed part of the celebrations for the centenary of Finnish independence last year. This new production will be directed by Tuomas Parkkinen. The festival programme will also include some other notable music events, including a centenary concert for Leonard Bernstein and an evening with Aili Ikonen.
