Intimate manor houses and fabulous churches are the heart of this festival, which benefits greatly from the distinctive performance venues of the region. Our versatile programme brings festival events to six districts in the heart of Savonia, with chamber music gems, special events for children and light music concerts.
Come and enjoy leading artists performing at incomparable concert venues in a genuine rural setting. Concerts are arranged in splendid locations, such as the wooden church at Luhanka, the mediaeval church at Sysmä, and large manor houses in the region. The Artistic Director of the festival is the distinguished conductor Esa Heikkilä.
Providing organ music experiences since 1973, this annual specialised event provides numerous opportunities to hear Finnish and international organists, orchestras and choirs. The organ serves as an instrument of several musical genres over the festival week, which also incorporates films, opera, dance and various experimental art forms into the organ music programme.
The maritime ambience of Inkoo and its mediaeval church will breathe new life into familiar and less well-known works of chamber music. The highlights of this annual celebration are international guest stars, a concert for children, a concert at the Wallhalla Theatre in Barösund, and the Jazz in the Square free concert.
Splendid musicianship is the hallmark of this unique festival, with international artists performing in a wide range of concerts. Professional musicians, students and hobbyists are all welcome to enrol on our courses, and the opportunity to follow the preliminary and final rounds of an international soloist competition should not be missed. Lieksa is a small town in North Karelia close to the Eastern border of the European Union, with enchanting natural landscapes and a wealth of leisure time opportunities accompanying the festival. This is the largest art music event of any kind in the region, and also the largest brass music festival in the Nordic countries.
