Master conductor Valeri Gergijev will once again bring the world-famous St. Petersburg Mariinski Theatre Orchestra and soloists to Mikkeli next summer. Initially organised as an intimate chamber music celebration in 1992, our festival has grown into one of the leading classical music events of the Finnish cultural summer.
The main programme of Oulainen Music Week is a classical music concert series, which is supplemented by supporting events with leading names in jazz, folk, children’s music and entertainment.
This chamber music event centres on the 300-year-old wooden cruciform church in the village of Iitti, about 70 miles northeast of Helsinki. The high point of the festivities will be hauling a piano to the lookout point at Hiidenvuori for a watchnight concert. The pianist Laura Mikkola has served as Artistic Director of the festival from its very foundation.
RUSK festival combines superior chamber music with various artistic disciplines in a melting pot where creativity can flow in exotic contexts, even during a darker and chillier time of year. The festival was founded in 2013 by clarinettist Christoffer Sundqvist and composer Sebastian Fagerlund. The prominent conductor Anna-Maria Helsing has served as Artistic Director of the RUSK festival since 2020.
