This internationally acclaimed festival will bring together friends of Sibelius’ music from across the globe for the 20th time in September 2019, as the Lahti Symphony Orchestra once again invites followers of Finland’s national composer to a wonderful celebration in the acoustically splendid setting of Sibelius Hall. The maritime ambience of Inkoo and its mediaeval church will breathe new life into familiar and less well-known works of chamber music. The highlights of this annual celebration are international guest stars, a concert for children, a concert at the Wallhalla Theatre in Barösund, and the Jazz in the Square free concert. The Artistic Director of Music by the Sea is the violinist Nonna Knuuttila.
This unique celebration gives the audience an intimate chamber music experience by the historic shores of Lake Tuusula with an unconventional, multi-artistic and intellectually riveting programme. Our Festival keeps listeners on their toes by continually re-inventing and challenging itself under the inspired artistic direction of the Kamus Quartet.
The finest mediaeval, renaissance and baroque compositions resound through the venerable cultural landscapes of Lake Rautavesi every year at the turn of July and August, with the mediaeval stone churches and leading cultural sites of Sastamala serving as charming concert venues. Our thematic five-year programme for 2018 – 2023 will transport audiences to a series of cities served by waterways that have linked them to the wider world and turned them into flourishing centres of culture. The theme city in 2019 will be Paris, the city of love.
