This splendid festival focuses on song music performed at local venues, together with courses for singers and musicians, and the Kangasniemi singing competition. The Artistic Director of the festival is the distinguished conductor Mikko Franck.
Splendid musicianship is the hallmark of this unique festival, with international artists performing in a wide range of concerts. Professional musicians, students and hobbyists are all welcome to enrol on our courses, and the opportunity to follow the preliminary and final rounds of an international soloist competition should not be missed. Lieksa is a small town in North Karelia close to the Eastern border of the European Union, with enchanting natural landscapes and a wealth of leisure time opportunities accompanying the festival. This is the largest art music event of any kind in the region, and also the largest brass music festival in the Nordic countries.
Invigorating chamber music, philosophical debate and intellectual enquiry come together at this fascinating festival, with memorable performances in an idyllic garden city milieu just a short drive from Helsinki.
Powerful experiences, brilliant artists, a splendid setting and a continually evolving topical perspective on the diverse world of church music! Besides more traditional music events, Lohtaja Church Music Festival will provide pop-up concerts, community singing and other social occasions.
