Leading chamber musicians will transfix the town of Kuhmo in Eastern Finland this July. A skilfully designed festival programme, inimitable concerts, beautiful surroundings and sunlit nights will open the senses to new and sublime delights.
Invigorating chamber music, philosophical debate and academic enquiry will come together at this fascinating festival amidst the autumnal ambience of an idyllic garden city within the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, with a wide range of workshops and some unprecedented surprises.
The landscapes of Lake Tuusula form the crucible of the Finnish cultural world, providing the backdrop for a unique journey through the wonders of living chamber music. Artistic Director Pekka Kuusisto is expecting several leading musicians to take up his invitation to perform at the festival, as in previous years. We cannot guarantee that everything you hear will be safe and familiar, but open-minded audiences can rest assured of satisfaction.
This chamber music event centres on the 300 year-old wooden cruciform church in the village of Iitti, about 70 miles northeast of Helsinki. The high point of the festivities will be hauling a piano to the lookout point at Hiidenvuori for a watchnight concert. The pianist Laura Mikkola has served as Artistic Director of the festival from its very foundation.
