This unique urban festival is a joyful celebration that takes over the entire City Port and downtown districts of Kotka, bringing visitors back time and again to meet old friends and have lots of fun every year! The diverse programme will foster an international atmosphere, with local and international culture, music, dance and theatre, sporting and boating events, and the largest parade of the Finnish summer. There will also be a generous programme of free admission events for families with children, including the Children’s Maritime Festival.
The whole of August will be packed with events, music, literature, films and cultural experiences of all kinds! Oulu August Festival is a package of eight festivals and dozens of fringe events, with local people and leading international guests appearing in the concert halls, restaurants and cafés, churches, libraries and galleries, parks, streets and city squares of Oulu and the surrounding districts.
2018: The 20th festival will feature a special jubilee exhibition and publication, and our International Accordion Congress. Programme highlights will include Wu Wei (Germany/China), Pascal Contet (France) and Johanna Juhola (Finland) – with the Guardia Nueva tango orchestra naturally enjoying pride of place. This festival really brings out the extraordinary versatility of the accordion as a musical instrument in a classical, modern and light music context. The programme will also include dance, community singing and outdoor events.
The cultures of the world will come together in Kaisaniemi Park and the Central Railway Station Square on the last weekend in May for a major free event offering a wealth of art and action for the whole family. The programme will include dozens of performances from various parts of the world, together with stalls featuring a wide range of interests from civic organisations to exotic cuisine.
