Sata-Häme Soi is a colourful music festival that celebrates that most beloved of instruments in Finland, the accordion. This festival attracts both world-class professional artists and capable hobbyists with a programme that includes a wide spectrum of concerts from pop to classical and special events for children.
We shall celebrate the 400th anniversary of the City of Kokkola with a programme of Finnish musical treasures, premiere performances, dance, community singing and outdoor events, and musical ambassadors from Finland and the wider world. This festival really brings out the versatility of the accordion, with folk, classical, modern and light music, and a special programme of guided tours, children’s music, lunchtime concerts, melodies for senior citizens and the Guardia Nueva tango orchestra.
This unique event is famous for its energetic gigs, warm atmosphere and celebrated performers. Organised at the Tervasaari UPM paper mill and in the grounds of Myllysaari museum, the broad programme includes pop, rock and rap music, workers’ songs and world music.
The seven festivals and fringe events of this late summer celebration attract a total of between 55 and 60 thousand visitors every year. Oulu August Festival incorporates Elojazz, Oulunsalo Soi Chamber Music Festival, Muusajuhlat Literary art festival, Oulu Arts Night, Koiteli Elää pop and rock festival, Oulu Music Video Festival and the Air Guitar World Championships. The programme varies from year to year, ranging from small concert events and the Oulu August Festival presents series for local talent to contemporary circus and choral celebrations. Many programme events are also open to the public free of charge, meaning that everyone is invited to our August sensation!
